Introduction

MahTaab, Beyond Electricity Generation

MahTaab Parto Kangan LNG Co. was established in February 2015 with the aim of developing the country’s gas export capacity through the establishment of natural gas liquefaction (LNG) facility.
Kangan LNG is the first mid-scale LNG production project being developed by a private sector in Iran. The LNG plant with production capacity of approximately 2–2.4 MMtpa along with associated export facility is planned to start normal operation in 2024.
The project has considered the site to be located next to Iran LNG’s site, facing the Persian Gulf, in Tombak (50 km NW of Assaluyeh and 15 km SE of Kangan).
In April 2017, the company succeeded in obtaining the main agreement on the construction of an LNG plant from the Ministry of Petroleum (MOP), where during this year, a 20-year long term contract for converting 11 million cubic meters of natural gas to LNG per day with MOP will be signed.
Conceptual studies phase of the Kangan LNG project has been conducted by Worley Parsons Company as one of the most reputable international engineering consulting companies in this field.
According to the project schedule, the construction of the plant with an investment volume of over one billion dollars will be started in 2020 and after 42 months in 2024 will be ready for normal operation.
