The CEO of MahTaab Group Announced a 345 MW Increase in the Country’s Power Generation Capacity
The CEO of MahTaab Group, speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the steam section of Rudshur Power Plant, expressed his appreciation for the dedication of employees across Iran’s water and power sectors during the war and other critical circumstances. He stated that the relentless efforts of these professionals nationwide ensured that not even a single second of power outage caused by wartime conditions was imposed on the public, adding that the country’s electricity industry will always remain indebted to their commitment and sense of responsibility.
Referring to the commissioning of the steam section of Rudshur Power Plant, he noted that with the completion of this project, Rudshur joined the country’s combined-cycle power plants, adding 345 MW to Iran’s electricity generation capacity. The project was implemented with an investment of approximately €300 million, including €220 million in financing from the National Development Fund and €80 million contributed by shareholders.
Dr. Amir Mirzaei added that the operation of the steam section will result in annual savings of at least 700 million liters of diesel fuel, while significantly enhancing power generation efficiency and reducing national fuel consumption.
Emphasizing the capabilities of domestic experts, he stated that although the gas units of Rudshur Power Plant were designed based on Siemens technology, the steam section was executed using the maximum capacity of Iranian contractors, manufacturers, and specialists, making the project a successful example of reliance on the country’s technical expertise.
The CEO of MahTaab Group also expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Energy, MAPNA Group, the National Development Fund, and the Industry and Mine Bank. He noted that despite the sudden withdrawal of foreign experts and the intensification of sanctions—which could have posed serious challenges to project implementation—the collaboration of domestic organizations enabled the successful completion and commissioning of the project.
In another part of his remarks, Amir Mirzaei addressed the financial challenges associated with converting gas-fired power plants into combined-cycle facilities. He explained that prolonged project execution timelines in recent years, resulting from sanctions-related constraints and equipment procurement difficulties, have created a gap between projected revenues and loan repayment obligations. This situation, he emphasized, highlights the need to revisit support mechanisms and financing frameworks for infrastructure projects.
Stressing the vital role of the National Development Fund in developing the country’s infrastructure, Amir Mirzaei stated that continued private-sector investment in the electricity industry and efforts to address the imbalance between energy supply and demand will not be possible without strengthening financing instruments and supporting investors.
In closing, he paid tribute to the late Engineer Ahmad Mashayekhi, noting that a significant part of the success of the Rudshur project was made possible through his valuable contributions and those of many other power industry professionals, whose expertise and dedication have paved the way for the development of the country’s energy infrastructure.
