Introduction

The Sarakhs Solar Power Plant Project is being implemented by MahTaab Dena Energy Development Company with the objective of expanding renewable energy generation capacity and enhancing the stability of the power grid in eastern Iran. The project has been designed with a total installed capacity of 12 MW, divided into four development phases. The first phase, with a capacity of 3 MW (DC), is currently under construction.

Given the environmental challenges associated with fossil fuel consumption and the limitations of non-renewable energy resources, the project has been developed with a strong commitment to environmental protection and the effective utilization of the region’s natural potential. In addition to generating clean electricity, the power plant is expected to play a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Sarakhs Solar Power Plant is based on photovoltaic (PV) technology and utilizes high-efficiency 715 W TopCon solar modules together with advanced 350 kW, 800 V inverters.

Mounting Structure: The project employs robust fixed-tilt mounting structures designed and engineered based on comprehensive geotechnical studies and pull-out tests, ensuring optimal performance under the region’s climatic and environmental conditions.
Grid Connection: The generated electricity will be transmitted to the national grid through dedicated substations and 20 kV transmission lines. The electrical system has been designed in accordance with international standards as well as the technical requirements of Tavanir and SATBA.
Specialized Studies: All engineering design activities have been carried out based on topographical surveys, geotechnical investigations, and site-specific albedo measurements. Energy yield assessments and production simulations have been completed using PVsyst software to ensure accurate annual energy generation forecasts.

The power plant is located in Sarakhs County, in the northeastern part of Khorasan Razavi Province, near the Iran–Turkmenistan border. The site was selected following detailed solar resource assessments, as Sarakhs benefits from one of the highest annual solar irradiation levels in the province, making it an excellent location for solar power generation.

The availability of infrastructure within the Sarakhs Special Economic Zone, together with convenient access to power transmission facilities, provides significant strategic advantages for supporting regional industries and strengthening the local electricity network.

Clean Energy Generation: Annual electricity production without the consumption of fossil fuels and without atmospheric pollutant emissions.
Water Conservation: Unlike conventional thermal power plants, the solar generation process requires virtually no water consumption, which is a critical advantage in a water-scarce region such as Sarakhs.
Grid Stability Enhancement: Strengthening the power grid in eastern Iran and reducing transmission losses through localized electricity generation.
Employment Creation: Generating direct and indirect job opportunities during both the construction and operational phases of the project.

The Sarakhs Solar Power Plant has obtained all required legal permits and approvals, including the construction license from SATBA, environmental permits, and grid interconnection authorization. The EPC contractor selection process has been completed, and with the procurement of major equipment underway, construction activities for the first phase are progressing rapidly.

According to the current project schedule, the first phase of the power plant is expected to be commissioned and connected to the national grid by the end of autumn 2026.
